This enzyme forms a complex with a colipase protein, which is not involved in catalysis directly.
Although this enzyme binds a calcium ion, it is distant from the active site and not involved in catalysis.
This enzyme has got a catalytic triad composed of serine/histidine/aspartate in the N-terminal domain. The oxyanion hole seems to be made up by the mainchain amide groups of Phe77 and Leu153 (of PDB;1lpb). Thus, the catalytic mechanism must be similar to serine protease, trypsin.
